The Consumer Protection Act, 1986, was enacted on 24.12.1986, which is an innovation in the Indian context to better protect the interests of consumers and to that end to provide for the establishment of consumer courts to settle consumer disputes and related issues. It is a milestone in the history of socio-economic legislation, which has two main objectives: first, to provide better protection for consumers and, secondly, to provide quick, inexpensive and fair redress to their claims.
